Through the study relation between pictorial documentation and other culture fields (ex. society, customs, arts), this course provides the students basic knowledge of Japanese culture.

JAPN 406 STUDY OF CLASSICAL JAPANESE PROSE [3]

In this course we will read the major works of classical Japanese prose such as monogatari, essays, diaries, collected folklore tales and dramatic literature. Through these activities, students will understand the cultural and philosophical backgrounds of the literary writings and develop ability to read the antiquated writing style.

JAPN 408 THE KOREA-JAPAN RELATIONSHIP AND JAPANESE POETRY [3]

This course aims to understand ‘Japanese-Language Literature’ in the Korean Peninsula under Japanese rule that affected hugely the modern relationship between Korea and Japan. Especially by focusing on poetry, we will examine the aspects of cultural exchange between Korea and Japan.
